Steps to create a meme ID.

Almost any random combination of letters and numbers of moderate length (say 10 or more characters) is not likely to appear on the web. This is the basis for the security of computer passwords. The space of such random combinations is orders of magnitude larger than the space of normal words and numbers.

Thus you can create your own private meme IDs and keep them entirely secret. They are unlikely to be found by anyone searching the web - except by you and your associates who know the secret meme ID.

To use the memography social classification scheme (which means your pages will be found when people search for a known meme ID), you must choose a memespace, a taxospace, and create a well-formed meme ID.

MEMESPACE-TAXOSPACE-ID

1) All memography meme IDs begin with the four character string MEMO, which is Memography.com's own memespace.

2) They are followed by letters and numbers that identify the taxospace, for example ISBN, UPC, SIC, or ZIP.

3) Following hyphens to demarcate memespace and taxospace, there is an arbitrary length code.

If well-designed, this code can be truncated to point to a larger containing meme. This probably needs more hyphens or other appropriate delimiters so the search engine will tokenize the codes.

For example, MEMO-ZIP-02138 is the meme ID for the geographic area in Cambridge, MA around Harvard Square where the author lives. MEMO-ZIP-02138-6707 is a meme ID for his home and lab.
